Two Spaniards, one day, one teenager. Bernie Regalario knocked out the defending champion David Alcaide 10–2 this morning, and a few hours later he did much the same to the US Open champion. The 19-year-old "L'il Prince" has beaten Francisco Sánchez Ruiz in the Philippines Open quarter-finals and he's the first man into Saturday's semi-finals at Gateway Mall. WNT's word for it was "thrashes". Aloysius Yapp and Fedor Gorst are both out too, and the Team USA picture has probably moved again.
Quezon City — Regalario does it again
He was 4–0 up early with the help of a golden break. The last time the WNT TV scoreboard showed the score, he led 9–1 with only the nine left on the table. The next thing we saw was him high-fiving the front row. WNT hasn't posted the final score yet, so we won't print one. He'll play the winner of the all-Filipino quarter-final between Johann Chua and Carlo Biado, which was still going when we filed.
The rest of the last 16
Per WNT's official bracket:
- Baseth Mocaibat 10–3 Aloysius Yapp: the world number one goes out to the man who knocked out Denis Grabe on Thursday. That makes four Filipinos in the quarter-finals.
- Shane Van Boening 10–9 Edwin Dela Cruz Gamas: Gamas, who put out Robbie Capito, led 7–3 and got to the hill first. Van Boening won it in the decider.
- Anton Raga 10–7 Jefrey Roda: the only all-Filipino tie of the round.
- Jayson Shaw 10–9 Fedor Gorst: Shaw got four ahead, Gorst pulled it back, and it went to a one-rack shootout. Shaw won it. "An absolute war," said WNT.
The bracket also fills in the two scores from this morning that we didn't have: Biado beat Albert Januarta 10–8 after trailing 8–3, and Chua beat Aleksa Pecelj 10–7.
Quarter-finals still to come: Mocaibat v Van Boening and Raga v Shaw.
The Mosconi Cup sums
This was the last ranking event before the teams are fixed, and Gorst needed a quarter-final to get past Tyler Styer, who isn't playing in Manila. Rack 9 had Styer on $27,470 and Gorst on $24,870 before the event. Add last-16 money and, by our maths, Gorst comes up roughly $100 short. If that's right, Styer keeps the third automatic Team USA place behind Van Boening and Thorsten Hohmann, and Gorst needs a captain's pick. Shaw wants a European pick, and this won't hurt his chances. These are our own figures. The World Nineball Tour will confirm the standings after Saturday's final.
Belfast — quarter-final day
The Northern Ireland Open quarter-finals start at 1pm with Anthony McGill v Kyren Wilson and Sam Craigie v Elliot Slessor. At 7pm it's David Gilbert v Mark Williams and Jak Jones v Scott Donaldson. Williams, 51, and Wilson are the only top-16 players left. The winner gets £100,000.

Lee Sun-young is ranked 69th and in her first LPBA quarter-final, and Lim came from 0–2 down to knock out Jung Su-bin.
- Q Tour Europe, Oberhausen: Rory McLeod didn't turn up for his round-two match, so Umut Dikme goes through on a walkover, per snooker.org. Mark Joyce whitewashed Dominik Sobaniec 4–0.
