News Mehta Takes Commonwealth Snooker Gold as India Top the Ahmedabad Table — Kenna Blanks Pandian; Heo Jung-han Wins Goseong 50–37

feature-evening-1010.jpg
Evening all. Ahmedabad has handed out its medals, and it's a home win at the top of the table, although the Great Britain team will tell you they won more golds. Goseong has its men's champion too, Mark Allen has got Belfast talking with three words on social media, and the seniors are back at the table in Reading. Here's the lot.

AHMEDABAD — MEHTA BEATS HARIA FOR SNOOKER GOLD
  • Aditya Mehta is the Commonwealth snooker champion. He beat his India team-mate Dhvaj Haria 3–0 in the all-Indian final, according to the organisers and the IANS medal report. Laxman Singh Rawat and Sri Lanka's Mohamed Thaha Irshath share bronze.
  • A note of caution on the detail: CueTracker's entry for the final currently has the names the other way round, with Haria down as the 3–0 winner and breaks of 83, 64 and 57. The organisers' own post congratulates Mehta on gold and Haria on silver, so I'm going with that. I won't credit those breaks to anyone until the scoresheet is sorted out.
  • India finished top of the medal table with 13: three gold, five silver and five bronze. The other two golds came in English billiards. Anupama Ramachandran beat Revanna Umadevi 1–0 in the women's final and Rayaan Razmi beat Siddharth Parikh in the men's. IOA President PT Usha presented the medals. The event was part of the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India's centenary celebrations and the first time the multi-discipline Championships have been held in India. Around 144 players from more than 40 nations took part.

KENNA'S CLEAN SWEEP — AND FOUR GOLDS FOR GB
  • Rebecca Kenna won the women's snooker title, beating Keerthana Pandian 3–0 in the final. After her 3–2 escape against Michelle Rabe in the quarter-finals she didn't drop another frame, following the Ishika Shah whitewash with this one. Pandian had needed all five frames to get past Shruthi Lakshminarayanan in her semi (CueTracker frame scores). Shah and Lakshminarayanan take bronze.
  • Kelly Fisher took women's heyball gold against Uganda's Rashidah Mutesi. South Africa's Marina Jacobs and Mary Talbot get bronze. Mark Foster beat Sheridan Burmester 6–3 for the men's 10-ball title, and Lee Shepherd beat South Africa's Shaun Martheze 7–3 in the men's blackball. Count Kenna as well and that's four GB golds, one more than India, who finished top on total medals.
  • Elsewhere: South Africa's Jason Theron beat India's Paras Gupta 6–5 for men's heyball gold, about as close as a final gets. Australia's Meng-Hsia Hung edged South Africa's Elzette Koen 5–4 in the women's 10-ball (the organisers' post spells it Koen, the press release Joen).
  • A correction on the women's blackball. This morning I had Emma Cunningham v Naiga Rukia down as the final, but the official results have Uganda's Naiga Rukia beating South Africa's Prudence Nkosi 5–3 for gold, with Cunningham and Australia's Kolbe Poole taking bronze. Apologies for that one. Congratulations to Rukia, whose gold gives Uganda a title to go with Mutesi's heyball silver.

GOSEONG — HEO JUNG-HAN MAKES IT FOUR FROM SIX
  • Heo Jung-han, Korea's domestic No.2, beat 22-year-old Son Jun-hyuk 50–37 in 33 innings to win the men's three-cushion title at the Gyeongnam Goseong County Governor's Cup, MK Billiards News reports. That's four of this year's six national ranking events for the 49-year-old.
  • It was a strange final. Heo led 27–19 at the break after only nine innings, then went 11 straight innings without scoring. Son got his nose in front at 32–31 but couldn't build on it. Heo got going again, ran seven late to reach 45–37 and finished it from there.
  • He was beaten in the final here last year, so this one meant a bit more for the local man (he plays for Gyeongnam). "Because it's a tournament in my own region, I focused even more," he said (translated). Next up for him are the National Sports Festival and the Yanggu World Cup. "Yanggu is in Korea, so I'll do everything I can to win it." Jung Ye-sung and Park Su-young shared third. Paired with Heo Chae-won's women's title, that's a Heo double in Goseong (not related, as far as I know).

SNOOKER — "IS IT TIME?"
  • Mark Allen hasn't played since the World Championship in April, when a missed black cost him a place in the final. Today he posted a short video of himself watching TV with a cuppa, captioned "Is it time?", Belfast Live reports. He's still in the Northern Ireland Open draw, which starts on 18 October at the Waterfront Hall, and his first-round opponent would be his good friend Jordan Brown. Allen won the event in 2021 and 2022. Nothing's confirmed, but the timing is hard to ignore.
  • Reading, day two of World Seniors Tour event three (CueTracker results): Wayne Townsend beat Matthew Day 4–2 with breaks of 88, 88 and 58 to join Jimmy Robertson, Rory McLeod, Stephen Groves and Andy Lavin in the last eight. Lavin knocked out WSS world No.1 Aaron Canavan yesterday. The quarter-finals are tomorrow from 11:00.

CHINA — A TEENAGE CHINESE 8-BALL CHAMPION
  • This one slipped past us last week. Liu Yule won the 2026 Chinese 8-ball Youth Masters in Beidaihe, beating Sheng Yichen 15–5 in the final for a 100,000 yuan winner's cheque, China Economic News reports. Li Yutong and Zhao Yufeng shared third. The event ran for 14 days on Joy's home turf in Qinhuangdao and is billed as a pathway to the senior Heyball Masters, where the top prize is five million yuan.

STILL WAITING ON
  • The PBA last 16 in Goyang, including the Harim derby between Kim Young-won and Kim Jun-tae and Choi Sung-won v David Martínez. I haven't found a confirmed result in the Korean press yet, so it'll be in the morning roundup.

WHERE TO WATCH / FOLLOW
  • Sun 11 Oct, 11:00 UK: World Seniors quarter-finals in Reading, with live scores on WPBSA SnookerScores and updates on World Seniors Snooker's social channels.
  • Sun 11 Oct, 13:30 UK: LPBA final, Lee Mi-rae v Jung Su-bin, on the PBA's live stream.
  • 15–18 Oct: Reyes Cup, Makati Coliseum, live on WNT TV (ESPN+ in the USA).
  • From 18 Oct: Northern Ireland Open, Waterfront Hall, Belfast, usually on TNT Sports and discovery+ in the UK. Keep an eye on whether Allen v Brown goes ahead.

That's Ahmedabad done for another year, and what a week for Kenna and the Indian billiards players. Did anyone catch the snooker final live? If you can sort out the CueTracker mix-up and tell us who made those breaks, post it below.
