News Kim Ga-young Blanks Jeon 3–0 into LPBA Last 16 — Martínez Survives Shootout; Wu Eyes No.1 in Belfast

Kim Ga-young storms into the last 16 — Martínez scrapes through in Goyang

Evening from London, and the three-cushion noise out of Goyang has moved on since tea-time. Kim Ga-young didn’t just beat Jeon Eo-ram in the Crown Haitai PBA-LPBA Championship last 32 — she blanked her 3–0 (11–0, 11–4, 11–2) at the Kintex PBA Stadium, posting the day’s best average (1.500) and booking her place in the LPBA last 16. The Hana Card star is chasing a second title of the season, career win No. 20, and the billion-won prize-money mark.

Elsewhere in the women’s last 32, the last-16 field filled out as follows:
  • Kang Ji-eun 3–1 Hwang Yoon-jung
  • Kim Jin-a 3–1 Kim Ye-eun
  • Hida Orie 3–0 Kim Bo-ra
  • Jung Soo-bin 3–1 Oh Soo-jung
  • Kang Yu-jin 3–1 Kim Da-hee
  • Lim Kyung-jin and Park Da-som also through

On the men’s side, eight-time PBA champion David Martínez (Crown Haitai) was a set apiece away from an early exit. Tied 2–2 with Koo Min-soo (3–15, 15–10, 15–9, 12–15), he won the deciding shootout 2–0 to reach the round of 64. Also through from the 128: David Sapata, Eddy Leppens, opener winner Jo Geon-hui, captain Kim Jae-geun, Shin Jung-joo (avg 2.368, high run 9), and T. Nguyen via shootout.

Wu sits £26,650 off No. 1 — Belfast can finish the job

Official rankings after Shenzhen still have Zhao Xintong at £1,265,550 and Wu Yize at £1,238,900 — a gap of exactly £26,650, career-high world No. 2 for the 22-year-old. The BetVictor Northern Ireland Open (Waterfront Hall, 18–25 October) pays £100,000 to the winner, so a Wu title would put him clear at the top. He’s drawn against Scott Donaldson in round one on Monday 19 October. (Mark Allen’s fitness for Belfast was covered at midday — still no confirmation.)

Casanzio’s 15th on the Joss Tour

Closer to home for the American scene: Rochester’s Ron Casanzio went undefeated at Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour Stop #3 at Billiard Breakdown (3–4 October), claiming his 15th tour title. He shut out Nick Stoller in the winners’ quarters, beat Dan Sharlow 9–7 for the hot-seat berth, then gave Mark Creamer just a single rack in the final. Thirty-three in the field; $1,500 added. Next stop is Laconia, New Hampshire this weekend.

Ahmedabad opens tomorrow

A quick flag only — we previewed it properly this morning: the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships tip off at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad from 7–10 October, India’s first time hosting, with an 18-player home squad named by the BSFI.
