Bali: Fisher, Amit and Fu dumped as Women’s Worlds tip
Opening day at the Bali International Convention Centre did not wait around for polite introductions. Round one of the Kamui WPA Women’s 9-Ball World Championship is in the books — 64 players, set-play best-of-three (race to four racks per set) — and several of the biggest names are already on the losers’ side.
Austria’s Sandra Baumgartner knocked out 2024 champion Rubilen Amit 2–1. China’s Huang Qing Ning edged four-time world champion Kelly Fisher 2–1. Chihiro Kawahara blanked former champion Fu Xiaofang 2–0, Xin-Yu Hong did the same to Saigon Open runner-up Shi Tianqi 2–0, and Zhu Qing Bi swept world 10-ball champion Margarita Fefilova 2–0.
Defending champion Seo Seoa opened with a clean 2–0 over Yunmi Lim. Also through on the winners’ side: world No. 1 Pia Filler (2–0 Silviana Lu), Chezka Centeno (2–1 Zhang Muyan), Kristina Tkach (2–1 Shasha Liu), Jasmin Ouschan (2–0 Chen Siming), Chieh-Yu Chou, Han Yu, Wei Tzu-Chien, Savannah Easton and host hopes Julia Permata Sari, Desi Aristia and Annita Kanjaya. Marrakech closed: Brennan crowns NI as Cherfi falls 11–5
The IEPF World Eightball singles picture is finally firm. Northern Ireland’s Declan Brennan took the men’s singles world title on Sunday in Marrakech, beating Morocco’s Abderrahmane Cherfi 11–5 in the final after a 10–4 semi over Shaun Sharkey. That closes the Cherfi final question that sat open through yesterday’s Morocco team-title coverage.
England’s haul elsewhere: Barbara Taylor beat Emma Cunningham 8–5 for ladies’ singles; Jaden Billingham took under-23 singles 8–2 vs Joshua Hands; Jack Crank’s England B under-23 side sealed the team crown 8–6 vs South Africa. Morocco’s men remain the team champions after Saturday’s 11–9 final win over Northern Ireland.
Shenzhen: Trump walks on, Slessor edges Chang in a century war
Back at Bao’an: Judd Trump advanced when Anthony McGill withdrew (walkover into the last 16 path). Elliot Slessor beat Chang Bingyu 5–4 in a last-64 thriller that produced five centuries — Slessor 114 and 102, Chang 142, 131 and 130 — after Chang’s qualifying maximum had already banked the early high-break story. Pang Junxu dumped Luca Brecel 5–2; Neil Robertson saw off Liu Hongyu 5–2; Jackson Page beat Zhang Anda 5–2; Ali Carter and Xu Si also moved through. Fan Zhengyi’s morning 5–4 win over Mark Williams still sets up Fan vs Yuan Sijun in the last 32.
