Doha: Filler beaten first up
The Qatar 10-Ball World Cup has its first big shock. Joshua Filler, the No. 2 seed, was beaten 9–5 by Mustafa Alnar in the opening round at the Ezdan Palace Hotel. It isn't fatal. The first four rounds are double elimination, so Filler drops into the one-loss side and meets Mohammed Albalushi on Monday morning (10:30 GMT). One more defeat before the last 64 and the German is out.
Round one: who's through and who's in trouble
- Fedor Gorst beat Alex Montpellier 9–3, Carlo Biado beat Elliott Sanderson 9–2 and Francisco Sánchez Ruiz beat Dhoni Ramadi 9–1.
- Defending champion Jonas Magpantay whitewashed Zein Eddin 9–0. Last year's runner-up Szymon Kural beat Keishin Kamihashi 9–6, and world No. 1 Wojciech Szewczyk beat Nadeem Gull 9–3.
- Two more seeds fell: Ruslan Chinakhov beat Wiktor Zielinski 9–6, and Sanjin Pehlivanović edged Naoyuki Oi 9–8.
- Jayson Shaw got past Mohammad Soufi 9–7, and both Eklent Kaci and Kledio Kaci won easily.
- Still on the table at the time of writing: David Alcaide led Aleksa Pecelj 7–6, Bernie Regalario was on the hill at 8–5 against Ralf Souquet, and Thorsten Hohmann led Dimitrios Loukatos 5–4. Final scores in the evening post.
Belfast: the final starts at 1pm
Kyren Wilson and Jak Jones start the Northern Ireland Open final at 13:00. It's best of 17, with the second session at 19:00, and the winner takes the Alex Higgins Trophy and £100,000. It's a rerun of their 2024 Crucible final, which Wilson won 18–14. Jones is after his third ranking title of the season. Wilson hasn't won one in 19 months. Live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
Goyang: Kim Bo-mi's fourth crack at it
The LPBA final starts at 13:00 UK time (10pm in Korea), best of seven sets. Kim Bo-mi has lost all three of her previous LPBA finals. In the semis she came from 5–10 down in the third set to beat Lee Seon-young 3–0, a day after knocking out Kim Ga-young. Her opponent is five-time champion Lim Jeong-sook. Lim beat Lee Mi-rae 3–1 to reach her first final in two years and eight months. The winner takes 40 million won. On the men's PBA side, Kang Dong-koong (0–3 to Cho Kun-hwi) and Kim Young-won (1–3 to Lee Sang-dae) are already out, and the quarter-finals are being played today.
Oberhausen: Q Tour finals day
The Q Tour Europe event in Germany is at the semi-final stage. Mark Lloyd beat Sean Maddocks 4–3 and meets Mark Joyce, who whitewashed Sebastian Milewski 4–0. Riley Powell beat Luke Pinches 4–2 and plays the winner of Peter Lines v Lukas Kleckers, which was 3–3 at last check. The semis are best of seven from around 12:00, with the final expected at about 15:00. The winner gets £6,000.
