The first is what he calls an attacking safety: pot your own yellow and take the opponent’s red off the table in the same idea. Even if the yellow misses, the black is left as a 1-in-20 pot. You have improved the table and given them nothing.
The second is the skill shot — potting both balls together, which is legal under international rules — then taking the simple route around the rest of the pack instead of inventing a clearance. Leave the black where they still cannot do anything with it.
Watch for three things:
