Malta has a Q Tour champion. Aaron Busuttil blanked England’s 17-year-old Edward Jones 4–0 in Thursday’s final of WPBSA Q Tour Europe Event 2 in Sofia — the first Maltese winner of a Q Tour event — while Ho Chi Minh City’s World 10-Ball last 32 and the Poison Saigon women’s draw keep the festival tables busy.
Sofia — Busuttil makes Maltese history
Per WPBSA, Busuttil (35) completed a clean sweep through the title match at Ramada Sofia City Centre / the Princess Hotel strip, becoming the first player from Malta to win a Q Tour event after never previously advancing beyond a Q Tour last 16. He dropped just a single frame across the quarters and semis — 4–1 over Riley Powell, then 4–0 over Belgium’s Sybren Sokolowski — before whitewashing Jones in the best-of-7 final for £6,000 and 10,000 ranking points.
Jones’s run was the story of the teenager’s season so far: first Q Tour final after a previous best of last 64, including the win that ended Dean Young’s morning scalp of top seed Sanderson Lam. Busuttil later said the European Six-Reds title he took earlier in the Sofia EBSA week had given him confidence. Next stop on the Q Tour Europe calendar: Event 3 in Oberhausen, Germany, 22–25 October.
Saigon — Men’s World 10-Ball L32 day rolling
Single-elim day one of the 2026 Iwan Simonis WPA Men’s 10-Ball World Championship continues at Phú Thọ Indoor Stadium (best-of-five sets, race-to-4; 3–3 shootout). Morning’s Cueball Talk already flagged the headline bracket — Shaw–SVB, Kaçi–Feijen, Gorst–Kledio Kaçi, Yapp–Oi — and we’re not inventing Thursday rack scores before CueScore / Absolute Pool / Pro Billiard Series settle them. Women’s Poison Saigon Open — final Friday
The Poison Saigon Women’s 9-Ball Open (Military Zone 7 Stadium) is into the business end, with the final scheduled Friday 25 September. Defending champion Wei Tzu-Chien is still alive after her shootout win over Vietnam’s Bui Xuan Vang earlier in the draw and a last-16 win over Margarita Fefilova; Absolute Pool lists her quarter-final against Germany’s Pia Filler among the live bracket. Host Vietnam is finished on the women’s side too. Purse $90,000 / $25,000 to the champion — no semi or final results claimed here.
India — NSCI Open 8-Ball opens Saturday
Delhi’s NSCI Open 8-Ball runs 26 September–5 October at NSCI Club, Mathura Road (DBSA / NSCI). About ₹5 lakh on the line; named field includes former world billiards champion Sourav Kothari, national 8-ball champion Sundeep Gulati, Kamal Chawla, Vidya Pillai and former national 8-ball winner Chitra Magimairaj.
