Peter Gilchrist defeated Dhruv Sitwala 824-289 to win the Body Corporate Administration New Zealand Open at the Papatoetoe Cosmpolitan Club in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Singapore representative made it three World Billiards ranking event titles in a row as he added the New Zealand Open crown to the Sydney Open and Auckland Open titles won in recent weeks.

Having already won the Auckland Open at the same venue earlier in the week, Gilchrist joined a field of 23 cueists in Auckland for the second part of the double-header.

The top seed comfortably advanced from a group that also featured George Chammas, Carl Walter Steiner, Ian Munro and Alex Kay with a clean sweep of victories.

Gilchrist had hit what would ultimately be the tournament high break in the group phase with a contribution of 277 (unfinished) and he continued his fine form into the knockout rounds as he overcame Wayne Carey and Terry Azor to reach the title match.

It was a repeat of the Auckland Open final as Gilchrist faced India’s Sitwala after he had beaten Grant Meadley 674-264 in the last four.

The former world champion was once again the dominant player though and he fired in 249 and 139 en route to a comfortable victory and a third successive title.

The World Billiards season continues on 11-12 October with the English Open at the Landywood Snooker Club which is immediately followed by the World Billiards Championship at the same venue on 13-16 October.
