WST and the WPBSA are sorry to announce that Geoff Foulds, former professional snooker player and father of fellow former professional and now renowned broadcaster Neal Foulds, has died at the age of 85.
Foulds, who also served as a director of the WPBSA from December 1989 – April 1997 (as Chair from December 1996-April 1997), was born in 1939 and turned professional in 1981. He enjoyed a strong amateur career that included winning the London Championship on six occasions from 1971 to 1979.
His best ranking event finish came at the 1986 International Open where he reached the last 32 stage following victories against Vic Harris and Bill Werbeniuk, before losing out 5-0 to his son Neal, who had himself turned professional in 1983.
He retired from playing following defeat to Australian Greg Jenkins at the 1990 World Championship qualifiers.
Jason Ferguson, WPBSA Chairman said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of today’s news and our thoughts are with Neal and the rest of the family at this time.”
Neal Foulds said: “The whole family are heartbroken but touched by the support we have already received. My dad was the driving force behind all of us and we are all immensely proud of him. My own life in snooker is solely down to him with the guidance and advice only a loving father can give.”
